A living hub of the specific questions people ask us — the in-between ones most guides skip. Each answer is short and honest. We add to it as we're asked more. For deeper dives, follow the linked guides.
Why this page exists: the most useful thing a brand can do is answer the exact question you're typing, plainly. These are those answers. (This is also the page we grow from real customer questions — the tail nobody else bothers to answer.)
Using actives together
Can you use vitamin C and retinol together? Yes — just at different times of day: vitamin C in the morning (protection), retinol at night (repair). Splitting them keeps skin calm and lets each work best. [Guide: layering actives.]
Can you use niacinamide and vitamin C together? Yes. The "they cancel each other out" claim is a myth for modern formulas — many products even combine them. Layer freely.
What should you never mix with retinol? Don't use retinol in the same routine as strong exfoliating acids (AHA/BHA) or benzoyl peroxide — separate them to different nights to avoid compounded irritation. Retinol pairs well with hydrators, niacinamide, and peptides.
Can you use hyaluronic acid every day? Yes — once or twice daily, on damp skin, sealed with a moisturizer. It's a gentle hydrator with no "tolerance" to build.
How often should a beginner use retinol? Start once or twice a week at night and build up slowly over weeks. Rushing causes the peeling that makes people quit. [Guide: how to start retinol.]
Pregnancy & safety (ask your doctor)
Can I use retinol while pregnant? Many dermatologists advise avoiding retinoids during pregnancy and breastfeeding — pause it and ask your doctor. This is a medical question, not a cosmetic one. [source: AAD]
Is vitamin C safe during pregnancy? Topical vitamin C is generally considered a gentler option, but always confirm any product with your doctor during pregnancy.
Is Divina safe for sensitive skin? Our formulas are vegan, fragrance-considered, and built around gentleness — but sensitivity is individual. Patch-test a new product on your inner arm for a couple of days first, and introduce one active at a time.
About Divina & made-to-order
How long does made-to-order skincare take to arrive? Because each order is made fresh in a small batch, allow a few days for production plus transit. The short wait is the freshness — your actives reach you fresh, not warehouse-aged. [Guide: made-to-order skincare.]
Is Le Collagène vegan if it says "collagen"? Yes — it's vegan. It uses plant-derived and peptide ingredients (like Matrixyl 3000) that support the look of firmness the way collagen would, with no animal-derived collagen. Vegan "collagen" works through peptides, not animal sources.
Are Divina products cruelty-free and vegan? Both — every formula is 100% vegan and never tested on animals, free of animal-derived collagen, beeswax, lanolin, and carmine.
Why does Divina cost more than drugstore skincare? It's premium, made-to-order, vegan, and made in North America with named, clinically-studied actives — priced for freshness and formulation rather than mass production. Whether that's worth it depends on what you value.
Does Divina have real reviews yet? As a founding-stage house we're still collecting verified reviews, and we deliberately don't show fabricated ones. Ratings we display will be from real customers. [Guide: is Divina legit.]
Technique & amounts
How many drops of serum should I use? Usually 3–4 drops (or a pea-sized amount) for the whole face — enough to cover, not so much it sits on top. More isn't better; it just doesn't absorb.
Do you apply serum to wet or dry skin? Most water-based serums absorb best on slightly damp skin — with one exception: apply retinol to fully dry skin to reduce irritation.
How long should I wait between skincare steps? About 30–60 seconds, until each layer mostly absorbs — longer (a few minutes) for strong actives like retinol. It's the difference between absorption and pilling. [Guide: the order of skincare.]
Where does face oil go — before or after moisturizer? After. Oil seals water-based products in, but water can't get through oil, so oil is always the last step (before sunscreen in the morning).
Can oily skin skip moisturizer? No — skipping it makes skin overproduce oil to compensate. Use a lightweight, oil-free moisturizer. Oily skin can still be dehydrated. [Guide: routine for oily skin.]
Ingredients & results
How long until skincare shows results? Hydration shows in days; tone, texture, and firmness reward 4–12 weeks of consistency. Skincare is a habit that pays back slowly — anything promising overnight change is overpromising.
Does vitamin C help dark spots? It helps fade the appearance of surface dark spots and evens tone over weeks — especially paired with daily sunscreen, which protects the progress. [Guide: fade dark spots.]
Do collagen and peptide serums actually work? They support the look of firmness and hydration and soften fine lines over time through peptides and hydrators — not by delivering collagen into deep skin. The results are real and gradual.
What's the single most important anti-aging step? Daily broad-spectrum sunscreen. Most visible skin aging is sun-driven, so protection outperforms any serum — and makes every other step work better. [source: AAD]
